Crumpler Hoax
April 19, 2010

For about a month now, I have been toting around a brand new (luxuriously hand-crafted) PURPLE Crumpler bag called 'The Hoax'. Eye-catching, spunky and functional this baby has been working the streets of Saskatoon. This fashionable commuter bag has been perfect for the jaunts from home to school, carrying a 15.5" laptop, or going to a pal's house with a bottle of wine and some eats. She's tough, durable and can definitely keep up with my split personality lifestyle.

The bag's specs: 25cm high, 32cm wide and 15 cm deep are perfect for my lady back (and by extrapolation, dude backs too). The Hoax's nylon shell really does the job when Saskatoon spring time weather turns into horizontal sleet, which feels like daggers into your soul! When I open my bag and find that everything is toasty warm and unsoiled inside, it is such a wonderful surprise! The pockets inside are great, testing your strength to see if you or the Velcro will win the war to open them, usually you win! There’s four pockets, two with Velcro and two without, for both the easy to reach items and items you want to keep secret, like diaries! The strap is adjustable, and there's a nice little strap pocket to tuck in your extra bits, this is so the loose and dangly bits don't get caught in trees and ruin your day! This bag thinks of everything!

Though 'The Hoax' is a pretty compact bag, it can hold a lot and without it becoming uncomfortable. As advertised on crumpler.ca, the bag can hold way too many binders, or the perfect amount of 6 packs (two), and they don’t lie (tried and tested). The colour purple, is the most fabulous colour in the universe which is as an added bonus and it also comes in some other way-funky colours for the bicycle fashionista's like moi! The Velcro sticks, the strap adjusts and the pockets are great for my personals. Overall this bag suited my life on and off the bike; it's perfect for short and long rides as well as walks to and from the farmers market. The bright color matches my bike and my personality, and has found a forever home with me!

However, sometimes 'The Hoax' can be a bit, well let's just say, trying... Though I will always love the bag, it does not come with an anti-slide/stabilizer strap for under the arm. This would be helpful when the bag isn't that full, because the bag tends to slide off your back. I'm just sayin'. Also, the strap adjuster doesn't work all that well when the bag is full and heavy. It would be nice if there was a buckle on the strap, so you didn't have to adjust the bag when put it on or take it off. Overall the pluses outweigh the (few) minuses, and we're a happy couple.

So, would I recommend this bag to other cyclists, and y'know 'the other humans'. Why, yes I would. It's a great medium sized bag, with loads of funk and spunk, fits all my stuff and is comfortable. I give 'The Hoax' 4 beers out of 5, for its style, comfort, and functionality.
