Dakine Covert Rasta Glove

May 5, 2009

Until late last year I hardly ever wore cycling gloves, it was just one thing I had never gotten used to, and could not really see the value of. Then, in late September, I took a big fall off my bike and as much as my brain was saying "don't stick out your hand", my hand shot out and took the impact. Luckily nothing was broken, but since I was not wearing gloves I had a nasty road rash that took weeks to heal. So that is how I started to wear gloves. The Dakine Covert Gloves are my newest gloves this year and are my favorite so far.

For me gloves serve the purpose of protecting my hands. I know for others it is a comfot thing while riding, but I have never found that to be an issue for me. So far I have ridden a whole bunch of street riding on my fixed gear and a small amount of trail riding on my 29'er and and really liking the feel of the Dakine Covert. The palm is a nice synthetic suede that is not thick, but is thick enough that you can tell they are going to last.

The glove fits true to size and has a nice terrycloth thumb, which is great for getting the sweat out of your eyes. The colors on this glove are great too. It seems like the whole Rasta color thing is getting more popular in mountain biking and Dakine has jumped on that, making it just noticable enough, without being over the top.

Riding in the Spring, these gloves have been great. I have used them in temperatures bordering on freezing and up to 22 celcius and they have been great. I have a feeling they will be a bit too warm when it gets real hot out, but the fact that they cover such a great range of temperatures is nice. I have yet to have any spectacular crashes this year, but I hope I am wearing these gloves when is happens, they will save my skin.
