Harlot Sophia Jacket
May 12, 2010

I had the opportunity to test the cozy, functional, and stylish Sophia jacket from Harlot this spring, and a good thing too, because this spring in Saskatchewan has been one that has definitely demanded cozy!

The Sophia jacket is built for outdoor activities from 100% technical polyester with a spiffy water repellent smooth outer face and very soft and comfy inner fleece lining. The ceaseless rain and snow I had the fortune to experience over a couple of weeks proved just how effective the water repellent feature is - I went out in some seriously wet conditions and the water simply beaded up and rolled off me like, well, water off a stylishly-jacketed duck's back.

The fleece lining is thick and soft and undeniably cozy, making me want to put the jacket on just to enjoy it. The only drawback to this jacket in terms of weather is that it is not at all windproof, and sometimes the warmth of the fleeciness was seriously compromised by the chill of the wind.

The cut of the jacket is very nice, long enough to provide full coverage while you're moving and cycling, but shaped so it doesn't look odd off the bike. The fabric, funky pockets (three of 'em, all with zips so important things can be carried safely!), and embroidery, contribute to make the jacket really cute as well as functional. The jacket has reflective piping on the back for safe night riding, but it is so subtle you don't even notice it in the daytime. The whole jacket is designed like this - overtly stylish but secretly super functional.
