Planet Bike Aries Glove

June 12, 2009

Planet Bike loves bike culture, and that is one of the reasons we love Planet Bike. I had a chance to check out the Aries Glove and put it to the test. This glove, well, it fits like a glove. It actually fits really well. I find that a lot of short finger gloves do not have a good overall fit, and are often tight between my fingers, but the Aries is great in this sense.

I have been on at least a dozen rides with these gloves and covered at least 1000 kms and can say that they do not really feel any different than riding with out gloves. The palm has foam pockets to "reduce numbness" but on my bike I do not get any numbness to start out with. I actually had to go and check the Planet Bike web site to double check that they actually had foam in them. It really seems like there is just another layer of palm material only.

The gloves are built tough. After all these rides they kinda look brand new still, which is kind of a rare thing these days. The lycra top breaths well, the terry thomb is great for wiping of sweat and the velcro closure seems tough. All these features and panels do however create a whole lot of seams. Too many seams infact. This all creates a nicely fitted glove, but when it is not providing any palm padding the friction of the seams can be a bit much,

Overall they are a great price, but did not really do much for me. In a fall they would protect my palm, and they have a nice reflective stripe for safety, but besides that not much. Spend a few extra dollars and get a glove with a gel palm. The only Planet Bike product to ever disapoint me, too bad.

Price: $19.99 USD
Details: An inexpensive glove that falls short of expectations
Pros: durable and well constructed
