Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Computer
April 7, 2009
In the city I have no desire to know how fast or how far I am going, but once I hit the highway I like to know these things. The Planet Bike Protege 9.0 all the basics plus a few more goodies to keep track of. It has a four line display screen so most things are there at a glance, up to five pieces of data at once, with out having to push a button and scroll through screen after screen. all in all you have a chance to see current speed, speed comparator, ride time, trip distance, dual odometer (for 2 wheel sizes), average speed, maximum speed, clock, and temperature.
Bike computers hace become extrememly simple to install and the Protege 9.0 is no execption. It took me all of 5 minutes to install and program it to my bike. The sturdy plastic base screws on around the handle bar, and then it is a simple task of wrapping the codr down to the fork. The wiring harness is nice and has an extra thick housing around the cable. Much nicer and less delicate than most on the market.
The magent was an easy mount on my double butted spokes, but will also fit onto a bladed spoke up to 4mm. Once the sensor and magnet were aligned, I did the simple programming of the computer. Once you set miles or kilometers, you have a few basics like tire size and time of day, but it is easy and takes only a minute. I set it up for my touring wheels, and was on the road in no time.
I have gone for a few rides now with this computer on and I am loving it. I do not change the screen at all, just leave it on the main screen and it has all the information I want to see. The screen is large too, so all that information is easy to read. The only thing I would like to see added to this is an altimeter, maybe next time.
