Planet Bike Sport Spot Light

April 17, 2009

When you are looking at getting a light for your bike there is one main decision that must be made. Do you want to see or be seen? This is important because for the most part, depending on the answer, you will end up in two very different price catagories. The Planet Bike Sport Spot almost falls in between, but for the most part you are just trying to be seen with this light.

The main thing this light has going for it is versatility. It can fit on your handlebar, helmet and even your head, and it literally takes only seconds to switch between them. For the most part I ride with my light on my handlebars, but the Planet Bike Sport Spot has come in handy on more that one occasion when I was walking through the trails and trying to look down different paths. I had it on my helmet for this and it actually makes sense to have the light facing where you are looking, it is a lot less confusing that way.

The Sport Spot uses 4X bright Nichia eXtreme V 2.0 LEDs. At slow speed they almost light a path for you, which is nice and quite a surprise for such a small light. In high speed situations however, you do not want to rely on it to fully light the way. There are three modes you can switch between, flashing and 2 or 4 LED steady modes. I basically take it for granted with Planet Bike products, but I will once again mention it, they make extremely high quality products. All the plastics are strong and have held up well, even survived a crash I had.

The Planet Bike Sport Spot is a small simple light for commuting, touring, and all around use. At $34.99 it is the obvious choice.
