Pedros Trixie
June 23, 2009
It is kind of strange because just as I was waiting to my new Pedros Trixie, I thought to myself, when was the last time I needed to remove let alone tighten my lock ring on my fixed gear? The answer was two years ago. But as strange luck would have it, within days of getting the Trixie, I felt my rear wheel slip. I kinda thought it was mud on the tire, but then it happened again. And all of the sudden I needed my Trixie.
The nice thing about the trixie is that the concept is simple. One tool that does it all. The Trixie is nice and black and plain, it does what it needs to do but does no try to be anything it can't. The lock ring tool is the obvious winner of the many tools the Trixie throws at you. I have another small tool that I had been using, but with the lockring option, I thought this might just be a better choice.
All in all it pack a lot of tools into itself. 15mm box end wrench, lock ring hook, 8, 9, 10mm box end wrenches, 5mm hex, and even a bottle opener. You could even bolt a chain on and make a chain whi out of this thing. On my fixed gear I was able to use most of these tools but was not sure what to use the 8, 9, and 10mm box end wrenches on. Although I have many other bikes that would benefit from them.
The Trixie even comes with two wing nuts, that confused me at first, but then I figured out you can easily mount it to the bottle bosses on a frame. A nice option if you do not want to carry a bag around, although it is small enough to throw in a back pocket.
The hardened steel should help this tool last a lifetime. At $45 it seemed a little pricey but if you use this alot it will soon pay for itself.
