Rudy Project Sunbay Sunglasses
July 15, 2009
Like the Sunflower sunglasses I reviewed last week, the Sunbays are part of Rudy Project’s Performance Attitude collection, and they combine Rudy’s prowess in creating technically advanced sport eyewear with a more fashionable appearance.
Compared to the Sunflowers, the Sunbay glasses have more straight lines and less rounded contours with almost rectangular lenses and overall smaller lens area. These glasses are a little less Sophia Loren and a little more Terminator. Overall they present a tougher, less feminine, look.
The Sunbays are advertised as perfect for small faces, and they do fit my small face very well in terms of comfort. They exert no extra pressure on the face or ears while still feeling secure and snug. They don’t look as attractive on my particular smaller face as do the sunflowers, but this is really a matter of face shape and opinion. However, I do think that if you’re going to depart from the sporty into the fashionable, why not go all the way? The Sunbays are still rather sport-shaped. Wearing them, I kind of feel like I should be riding a jet ski in a 1990s action movie.
The Sunbays function very well. They are not serious racing glasses but they will keep the sun out of your peepers on your daily commute or as you ride the trails. They are not simply for show, but are built for action.
Like all Rudy Project glasses, the Sunbays come with an enormous indestructible case that I have found to be not so easily portable, but they also come with Rudy’s anti-scratch lens replacement guarantee, making it more reasonable to leave the case at home.
