Weight Training For Cyclists

February 6, 2009

Whether you are an avid cyclist, doing your next tour or a dedicated racer preparing for the upcoming season, you can always benefit from training. It seems as though most cyclist including myself go with the model of putting more kilometers on the bike in order to perform better. That works, but only somewhat. As Ken Doyle and Eric Schmitz point out in there new book; Weight Training For Cyclists, A Total Body Program For Power & Endurance, creating a balanced work out of weight training in the off season and maintaining that strength throughout the year will benefit you as a cyclist.

This book covers everything you need to know. Starting will all the basics of weight training. as the book moves on you learn what a workout program is and how to focus one on your needs. With detailed drawings of excersise that cover everything from stretching, upper, lower and core strength, as well as power development, you have a full training guide in your hands. This book feels like you have a personal coach with you the whole way.

For anyone who is looking for an advantage on the roads or trails this spring, this is the book for you. I was amazed at how much it covered. A great book for the beginner or expert cyclist who wants to improve. Now you just have to do the work.
